Meet, Just Grace. Just Grace is a non-profit company with the overarching objective of poverty alleviation in Langa, Cape Town. Their first initiative is an Education Programme that involves after-school tutoring, mentoring, career guidance, university/college application assistance, and computer training for grade 10, 11, and 12 learners.
On the 12th of February, our Cape Town Team visited Just Grace and partook in an event which they held at Langa Secondary School, in Langa. We assisted with setting up for the day and then facilitated the execution of the day’s itinerary.
The day started with snacks and a series of ‘ice-breakers’ with the learners, which we participated in. The learners were then split into various groups and encouraged to mingle with each other and with the facilitators.
Just Grace compiled a well-thought-out ‘Amazing Race’ program for the learners – comprising 9 different ‘stations’. At each station, the learners were required to complete various activities with the main objective being to complete all stations in the shortest time possible. All activities at each station encouraged high engagement from all participants and a certain level of teamwork in order to successfully complete each task.
In the end, we tallied up each respective groups’ scores and announced the winners – who received prizes.
It was a successful first event and collaboration with Just Grace and we look forward to building a relationship and working with Just Grace in the future, as we continue to endeavor to volunteer and engage with the communities which we serve.
